Saw this at a message board I check out from time to time and thought I'd post a bit of it...

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead, and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world's population.

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy.

If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If your parents are still alive and still married, you are very rare, even in the United States.

If you can hold someone's hand, hug him/her or even touch them on the shoulder, you are blessed because you can offer a healing touch.

Which reinforces what I've been thinking about lately... beliefs I've always held. I have little interest in keeping up with the Joneses. I don't care to have the newest, the best or the biggest of anything really. I can be happy (but never completely content, as I think there would be a degree of complacency) with life. All i hope for is to live well without losing myself or my soul , travel a bit from time to time, and enjoy moments.

A funny moment from this past weekend: We went to a hockey game as part of my husband's work team building. The hawks blew chunks and it was 5-1 near the end of the third. 'Jane Says' starts up and I look up at him, all happy 'cos they're playing JA when he begins to sing along, eerily well. which leads me to wonder why they picked that song for a hockey game.. weird.
